Engineering Requirements

Community-Engaged Engineering (CEE) projects must demonstrate:

Engineering Rigor

• Application of ABET-aligned engineering practices 
• Integration of engineering design with real-world constraints (health, safety, societal impact) 

Engineering Methods (minimum of two)

• Analytical modeling or simulation 
• Prototyping or fabrication 
• Standards/specification compliance 
• Verification and validation (V&V) testing 

Engagement and Time Commitment

• ≥ 50 hours of engineering work per student 
• ≥ 10 hours of direct community partner engagement 
• Regularly scheduled team meetings 
• Minimum of three formal design reviews (kickoff, midpoint, final)
