My name is Sichao Wang, and I came to the Rutgers School of Engineering from Shanghai, China as an undergraduate in 2019 – and graduated in 2023 with a BS in electrical and computer engineering. I plan to pursue my master’s degree in electrical engineering at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering in the fall.

I decided to study at Rutgers because of its reputation. It has a strong curriculum, experienced faculty, and many supportive academic resources.

Rutgers is a very diverse university, and you can always make friends with cultural backgrounds like yours – and with students from all over the world.

Rutgers’ great location between New York City and Philadelphia provides many cultural and social opportunities for engineering students, as well as opportunities for internships and careers.

My freshman year, for example, I took part in Rutgers’ Global Roommate program, which is a cultural opportunity open to all international Rutgers students. I had two American mentors as roommates to help guide me with information to help in both academics and college life.

As an international student, it can be a bit difficult to adjust to life in a new country and culture – but Rutgers and RUGlobal does a very good job of caring for international students like me.

Safety is an issue that international students care about. And from my perspective, Rutgers does a very good job with public safety. I always feel safe on campus.
