Edward DeMauro Selected as an AIAA Associate Fellow
School of Engineering Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Associate Professor Edward DeMauro has been named a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Class of 2026 Associate Fellows.
His AIAA citation recognizes his “exceptional contributions to aerospace engineering research and education within the State of New Jersey, constructing new hypersonic testing capabilities at Rutgers, and advising the Rutgers AIAA student organization.”
The honor is especially important to DeMauro as it is a testament to his “commitment to aerospace engineering. I’m honored to be counted among a number of highly respected peers,” he says. “For me, this is a realization of a dream since my undergraduate education to be recognized for my expertise in and passion for aerospace – and I’m deeply thankful to those who have mentored and helped me throughout my career.”
He adds, “I take immense pride in helping guide and shape students as they begin their own careers in the aerospace profession. Educating our students, working with our student AIAA organization, and inspiring them to work hard for their goals make me love my role as a mentor and faculty member at Rutgers Engineering.”
Distinguished in Research
DeMauro additionally reports that he takes pride in the ongoing construction of a new–and unique–hypervelocity expansion tube. “Once built,” he explains, “we will achieve Mach 8, with flow speeds around 4 kilometers per second.”
According to the AIAA, this latest endeavor follows logically from DeMauro’s upgrade of the measurement techniques used with Rutgers’ Emil Buehler Supersonic Tunnel.
In addition, DeMauro’s research team in his Gas Dynamics Research Lab includes four current PhD students, who, according to DeMauro, help investigate passive flow control of a supersonic shear layer in Rutgers’ supersonic wind tunnel. His research group is working closely with machinists during the construction of the new hypervelocity expansion tube.
DeMauro reports that he is looking forward to attending the official AIAA Class of 2026 Associate Fellows induction ceremony in Orlando, Florida, in January, held in conjunction with the 2026 AIAA SciTech Forum.
