Celebrating Excellence Across Rutgers School of Engineering
The Rutgers School of Engineering Faculty Recognition Program celebrates faculty members whose exceptional contributions advance teaching, research, innovation, collaboration, and service.
Through multiple recognition categories, the program honors faculty who make a meaningful impact on our students, the School of Engineering, Rutgers University, the engineering profession, the scientific community, industry, and society.
We invite faculty, students, department and school leadership, staff, alumni, and other members of the Rutgers community to nominate outstanding faculty members for recognition.
Recognition Categories
The Faculty Recognition Program recognizes excellence across four categories.
Innovation in Teaching
Recognizes faculty who demonstrate excellence and innovation in engineering education. Examples of contributions may include:
- Development of innovative teaching methods or approaches
- Effective use of educational technologies
- Measurable improvements in student learning and outcomes
- Instructional practices that can be disseminated or scaled
- Outstanding student mentorship
Industry Collaboration
Recognizes faculty who build meaningful connections among academia, industry, and the broader professional community. Examples of contributions may include:
- Academic-industry partnerships and collaborations
- Global research collaborations
- Leadership in governance and professional organizations
- Contributions to professional societies
- STEM outreach and engagement
- Initiatives that strengthen connections between engineering education and industry
Outstanding Faculty
The Outstanding Faculty Award recognizes an outstanding faculty member in an engineering program at Rutgers who demonstrates:
- Outstanding scholarship
- Excellence in teaching
- Devoted service
Faculty of the Year
The Faculty of the Year Award recognizes exceptional contributions by a School of Engineering faculty member to:
- The School of Engineering
- Rutgers University
- The engineering profession
- The scientific community
- Society at large
Frequently Asked Questions
Nominees must:
Faculty at all ranks—including Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors—are eligible.
Self-nominations will not be considered.
Nominations may be submitted by members of the Rutgers community, including:
Nominators do not need to be in the nominee's department or academic program.
Strong nominations provide specific examples that demonstrate a faculty member's accomplishments, contributions, and impact. When preparing a nomination, consider:
What has the nominee accomplished?
Describe specific achievements, initiatives, innovations, collaborations, or contributions.
What difference has the nominee made?
Explain the impact on students, colleagues, the School of Engineering, Rutgers, industry, the profession, the scientific community, or society.
Why does the nominee stand out?
Help the review committee understand what makes the nominee's contributions exceptional.
How does the nomination align with the selected category?
Provide evidence that demonstrates the nominee's excellence in the area for which they are being recognized.
Specific examples and evidence are more helpful to the review committee than general statements of praise.
A complete nomination includes:
Supporting materials should directly demonstrate the nominee's qualifications and contributions.
Nominations are reviewed by a diverse Faculty Recognition Program committee.
The review process is designed to promote fairness, transparency, and consistency across nominations. Committee members consider factors including:
Innovation
The degree to which the nominee demonstrates innovative approaches, ideas, practices, or contributions.
Impact
The significance and reach of the nominee's contributions and their effect on students, the School of Engineering, Rutgers, the profession, or society.
Peer and Student Feedback
Evidence of the nominee's contributions and effectiveness as reflected through appropriate feedback and supporting materials.
The committee uses a structured evaluation process to assess nominations and identify faculty members whose contributions represent exceptional achievement.
The Faculty Recognition Program follows an annual cycle.
