First Semester Course Registration

Fall Registration

The first year consists of required courses--or a common core curriculum--in general chemistry, applied physics, expository writing, calculus and Introduction to Computers for Engineers, as well as a humanities/social science elective, and Introduction to Engineering, which presents the various engineering majors offered at Rutgers.

Unlike other schools at Rutgers, the School of Engineering schedules your courses for you during this first semester. Your schedule will take into consideration placement test results, registration forms, and any AP credit or college courses taken.

Getting Your Schedule

Final registration is completed in August and your schedule will be available for viewing on August 20. Students will be able to modify their schedules starting August 25 before the semester starts by completing the required on-line course.

All students will be enrolled in the online course, SoE Academic Advising. The course is a remote asynchronous course which can be accessed via CANVAS. Completion of the course is required in order to gain access to WebReg for schedule modification.

When Can I Change my schedule?

  • You can change your schedule on your own August 20th. Students must complete the online course, SOE Academic Advising - Class of 2026 before being able to access the web registration system to modify their schedule. You will have plenty of help and guidance to change or update your schedule before the end of add/drop period. Do NOT email or ask the office to change your class meeting times or switch sections. However, if you notice any mistakes on your placement test results or AP credits, please email firstyear@soe.rutgers.edu. Make sure to include your full name and RUID when you email. Visit the academic credits page, if you need more information about AP credits or transfer college credits.

  • You will be able to change class sections/meeting times, add or drop courses using WebReg upon completion of the SOE Academic Advising course, and into the Add/Drop period.

  • Be aware of important dates and times (this will be updated during the summer) related to your first-week advising, and First-year Kick-off. If you still have questions after reviewing the information above, please contact firstyear@soe.rutgers.edu
