The Rutgers chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) took 2018 by storm, collecting numerous awards presented as part of the national organization’s 2019 WE Local Awards. In addition to being recognized as a Gold Collegiate Chapter--the highest possible recognition a collegiate chapter can receive, this exceptional group of young engineers collected additional awards for networking and professional development programs presented on campus during 2018 programing.
The Society of Women Engineers strives to advance and honor the contributions of women at all stages of their careers as well as recognize the successes of SWE members and individuals who enhance the engineering profession through contributions to industry, education and the community. WE Local Awards provide additional opportunities to recognize outstanding SWE members, SWE groups and individuals.
The following awards were presented:
- SWE Mission Award - Gold Collegiate Chapter (presented to only 25 of the 525+ collegiate chapters worldwide).
- SWE WE Local 2019 Outstanding Professional Development Event Award - Collegiate - Medium Group ( presented in recognition of the SHE-SWE-MEET Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair)
- SWE WE Local 2019 Joint Professional/Collegiate Award (recognized the chapter’s development of a networking event between SWE Rutgers alumnae, SWE NJ members, and current Rutgers SWE members).
SWE at Rutgers University
The Rutgers SWE Section was chartered in 1975. Its members include both female and male engineering students whose cause is to promote women in engineering.The Society provides a platform for women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expands the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in the quality of life, and demonstrates the value of diversity.
