School of Engineering Alumni-Industry Scholar Program

School of Engineering Alumni-Industry Scholar Program

The Alumni-Industry Scholar program, funded with the support of the alumni, provides selected Rutgers engineering juniors and seniors with: a $6000 endowed scholarship ($3000 for each fall and spring terms) during their last two years of undergraduate study; an oppportunity to conduct an informational interview with a successful alumnus; and invitations to alumni and industry events. The scholars will also collaborate to organize semester events where current students will benefit from learning more about the engineering industry.  The program is designed to set the stage for professional and personal success and to instill a commitment by scholars to continue the cycle by giving back to up-and-coming SoE students.

Renewal will be automatic for the senior year as long as a 3.0 cumulative GPA is maintained and the student actively participates in program activities.

Program activities for the fall semester include:

  • Alumni Football Tailgate
  • Medal of Excellence
  • AIS-Coordinated Event (i.e. How to Ace the Tech Interview)
  • General AIS monthly meetings

The first three scholars were named in 2012 and include Anthony Brown (Bioenvironmental), James Rizkhalla (Mechanical and Aerospace), and Kenneth Tian (Chemical and Packaging).  As part of their academic and professional experiences at the School of Engineering they participated in hands-on internships with companies including Bell Helicopter, Estee Lauder, and TRC Environmental Corporation, during which they established relationships with supervisors who provided mentoring that continues today.
