Chief Risk Officer, K2Advisors, LLC
Tilak Lal is the Chief Risk Officer at K2 Advisors, a hedge fund investment firm based in Stamford, Connecticut. In addition, he is the head of the risk management function for alternative assets at Franklin Templeton Investments. Mr. Lal joined K2 in 2009 prior to its acquisition by Franklin in 2012.
Mr. Lal began his career as a flight controls engineer at the Boeing Aircraft Company. After completing his MBA, Mr. Lal joined PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York as a consultant focusing on risk management. He later joined Reuters and served as the Product Support and Client Services Manager. He joined Askari Risk Management Systems (a State Street business unit) in New York in 2000 as the Head of Client Services and Product Support. Mr. Lal was appointed Global Head of Financial Engineering in 2002. In 2006, he joined Pequot Capital, a multi-strategy hedge fund based in Westport, Connecticut, as a senior risk analyst. Mr. Lal became Pequot’s Chief Risk Officer in 2008.
Outside K2, Mr. Lal is a member of the Rutgers University Board of Trustees. At Rutgers, he chairs the investment committee for the university’s endowment. He also serves on the Industry Advisory Board of the Rutgers Masters in Mathematical Finance (MSMF) program. In addition, Mr. Lal sits on the Board of Advisors of the University of Connecticut Masters in Financial Risk Management (MSFRM) program and also teaches in the program as an adjunct professor. Mr. Lal holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation.
Mr. Lal has a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rutgers University, a master of science degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, and an MBA in Finance from Columbia Business School.
