Class Schedules and Courses Taught

Rutgers teaches two courses at Armament University in the Fall and Spring semesters. Each semester consists of 14 weeks of course work, plus a final exam in the 15th week. The semester schedule for the 2009-2010 academic year is:

To register, please go the the web registration site (https://sims.rutgers.edu/webreg/). Please note: Non-degree students will need to contact the graduate program director of Materials Science and Engineering, Prof. Lisa C. Klein (licklein@rci.rutgers.edu), and receive a special permission number before registering.

All courses are taught in the 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. time slot, with each lecture having a duration of 160 minutes.

The courses above are open to all qualified students that are admitted to the Rutgers Materials Science and Engineering graduate program. However, students who are not employees of Picatinny Arsenal must make special arrangements to be allowed to enter Picatinny Arsenal.

A student enrolled in the Masters program at Picatinny can also take courses at the main campus of Rutgers. The tuition and the computer fee are the same, there is no off-campus fee, but there are other fees involved.

Tuition and Fees

The following tuition and fees apply for students taking courses at Armament University in the 2009-2010 academic year:

$577 per credit (paid by ARDEC). This is the in-state tuition rate for graduate students. Picatinny students who live outside New Jersey pay the in-state rate.

Total Term Bill

Textbook Purchases

Book purchases are not included in your term bill but they are reimbursed by ARDEC.

Reimbursement

Please coordinate with your ARDEC department training coordinator to fill out the SF 182 form for payment of tuition and ARDEC-paid fees, and the SF 1164 form for reimbursement of book purchases.

 

Both in-state and out-of-state government employees are charged the in-state tuition rate. Please contact the graduate program director if your term bill shows charges for out-of-state tuition. You can view your term bill online by going to the web site. Several forms of payment are available.


Transfer of Credit

Students in the Master’s program (degree program) can receive credit for courses they took in other universities. The student must first complete 12 credits at Rutgers before becoming eligible for transfer of credit.

Students eligible for transfer of credit should fill out the credit transfer form (in triplicate) and submit the form to the graduate program director. We recommend that you contact the graduate program director before filing out the credit transfer form and discuss your credit transfer request.

Interruption of Studies

Students enrolled in the M.S. program (degree students) must register every semester after enrolling. A degree student who does not wish to enroll in any courses in a particular semester must register as “matriculation continued” and pay the appropriate fees, which in 2009-2010 academic year total to $79. Please note that ARDEC will not reimburse the fees for “matriculation continued.”

A student enrolled in the certificate program (non-degree) do who does not wish to enroll in any courses in a particular semester does not need to register as “matriculation continued.”

Rutgers recommends that you maintain continuous registration in order to complete your studies in a timely fashion.
