Touching the Future
Bob (ENG ’63) and Carole Michna stopped in during a trip to New Jersey to visit with the recipients of their scholarship this past October. Each of the recipients expressed deep appreciation to Bob and Carole for their generosity. “Having the Michna Scholarship has made all the difference in the world for me and my family in being able to afford a Rutgers Engineering education” observed Lauren Wagner, a Class of 2013 major in Industrial and Systems Engineering. Bob and Carole set up this endowed scholarship in 2005. Bob remembers how valuable his scholarship was to him when he was a student and he wanted to ‘pay it forward’ to help other promising young engineers.
Engineering Exploration for First Year Students
Steve (ENG ’50) and Julie Albertalli recently visited one of the Steve and Julie Albertalli Engineering Exploration for First Year Students classes. Through a generous gift, they have made it possible to expand this course offering to a larger number of first year students. This hands-on engineering design course was developed to nurture the students’ knowledge about and passion for the field of engineering and to help students grow and refine the skills necessary to be a successful engineer academically and professionally via work on a series of projects covering all traditional engineering disciplines. On the day of their visit, students were working on a Mousetrap Car Project. “Julie and I had a great time visiting with these impressive young men and women. The students came up with a number of innovations, including one I never would have expected!” exclaimed Steve Albertalli at the conclusion of their visit.
