Career Development

Beyond the Classroom

Internships and cooperative programs are an important part of an engineering education in preparing students with real-world experience in corporate, industrial, or research environments.

In addition, Rutgers offers students resources in career readiness.

Experiential internships are central to an engineering education and our students gain experience at leading corporations and research agencies. Students have the option to earn academic credits for an internship.

The Rutgers office provides career-related advising, resources, and programs to help individuals discover their interests, values, and skills, explore careers and majors, develop skills through internships and experiential opportunities, and pursue their post-graduate goals.

Co-ops are typically paid positions and last anywhere from three to 12 months. As a result, students are out of class and working for a portion of their college career.

Many professions such as engineering, law, and medicine have procedures for licensing practitioners. In engineering, it is a legal process governed by the state.
