The Graduate Program in Mechanics at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is an interdisciplinary program offering advanced instruction and research in theoretical mechanics. The curriculum embraces all branches of mechanics that contribute to the understanding of material behavior and continuum physics, including continuum models of macromolecules. The broad areas of study are continuum mechanics and thermodynamics. The topics of courses and research include elasticity, viscoelasticity, DNA structure and topology, theory of phase transformations, liquid crystal theory, and the branches of modern mathematics and numerical analysis employed in the study of the dynamical equations of continuous media.
