Part-Time Study

Part-time study is an option that is available to graduate
students who have other obligations, such as a full-time job.
A student is considered part-time when registered
for eight or fewer credits.

Students who are U.S. citizens can switch from full-time to part-time any time (except for students holding appointments like TA, GA or fellow, who must be full-time students; doctoral students must be full-time for at least one year). No special documentation or permission is necessary. International students must be full-time at all times.

The School of Engineering recommends that part-time masters students complete their studies within four years. Please consult the graduate program director in the department where you wish to attend part-time for more details and program requirements.

NON-DEGREE STUDY

People who do not want to enroll as regular (matriculated) students or those who want to take a course or two from our graduate offerings have the option of applying as a non-degree (non-matriculated) student. Application for non-degree study is very simple. You just complete the online registration form, making sure that you chack non-degree study. The applicant also needs to submit all undergraduate and graduate transcripts. No letters of recommendation, personal statement or GRE scores are required. The graduate program then evaluates the application and makes an admission decision.

Please note the following:

  • A non-degree student can take a maximum total of 12 credits.
  • You need to get a special permission number from your graduate program director for every course that you take as a non-degree student.
  • International students are not eligible for non-degree study.
