After becoming a part of the Alumni Industry Scholars program, I am now connected with alumni of Rutgers University- School of Engineering. I had the chance to speak to a few and receive valuable advice and awareness to the opportunities that surround me during and after college. From January-August 2016, I did a 7-month co-op with United Technologies Corporation (UTC) Aerospace Systems and I learned a lot about the aerospace industry and what it is to actually be an engineer. I had the privilege to do many important things in my time there, such as: design, testing, analyzing, scientific writing, customer interface, and presentations. This work experience helped me realize that aerospace engineering is perfect for me and that I want to continue working in this industry.
The AIS scholarship enables me to follow my dream to work in the aerospace industry. As an independent, first-generation college student, it is difficult for me to follow my dreams without worrying that I may not have the resources to relocate to wherever my career takes me. However, with this scholarship I'm fearless to continue pursuing my passion. Next summer I will be interning at Northrop Grumman Corporation in San Diego, California to work with autonomous aircrafts. It feels great to be a part of this community with bright and successful engineering students!
